Bachelor of Science in Nursing (4-Year program)

Introduction  

BS Nursing is a four-year academic program with a mandatory one-year internship. At the conclusion of five years, students are required to apply for the PNC licensure examination. Successful completion of the exam will make the students eligible to receive the license of Registered Nurse.

Program Objectives 

  • Prepare professional, competent, culturally sensitive, and compassionate nurses, who can provide service to promote the health and well-being of individuals at various stages in their life.
  • Educate nurses to plan and implement evidence-based nursing interventions in the care of individuals, families, and
  • Enable nurses to integrate research findings and nursing theory for decision-making in professional nursing
  • Prepare nurses to advocate for patients’ rights and compassionate health care
  • Develop nurses who are capable of assuming a leadership role in complex and dynamic health -care settings

Scope of work  

  • Direct Patient Care: Perform comprehensive patient assessments, administer medications and treatments, implement and evaluate care plans, monitor patient vital signs, and provide patient education. 
  • Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: Educate individuals and communities on healthy practices, conduct health screenings, and collaborate on health promotion programs. 
  • Care Coordination and Management: Collaborate with healthcare teams, delegate tasks, assist in care transitions, and evaluate and modify care plans. 
  • Patient Advocacy and Communication: Advocate for patient rights, facilitate effective communication, and provide emotional support to patients and families. 
  • Professional Development and Leadership: Engage in continuous learning, stay updated with evidence-based practices, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and adhere to ethical standards. 

 Degree Awarding Authority  

Students who complete their coursework will be awarded a BS Nursing degree by Dow University Of Health Sciences, Karachi and the license is issued by Pakistan Nursing Council.

Qualification

The entry requirements for the BSN degree program are as follows

  • Matriculation (Physic, Chemistry & Biology)
  • HSSC (Pre-Medical) with 50% marks minimum
  • Migration Certificate required if HSSC is outside the Karachi Board
  • Age 16-35 years
