ICON 2024 Hosts Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Convocation
ICON2024, hosted by the Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), hosted the Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Convocation for the accomplished residents of IHHN’s batch 2022-2023. The ceremony, held at the Movenpick Hotel in Karachi on Sunday, January 27, 2023, witnessed the graduation of over 100 residents across 21 diverse specialties.
These 21 disciplines, ranging from Anesthesiology to Urology, represent a comprehensive spectrum of medical specialties that constitute the foundation of healthcare training. This expansive array, including fields such as Cardiology, General Surgery, Hematology, and Pediatric Medicine, reflects the depth and breadth of postgraduate medical education at IHHN, ensuring a holistic approach to healthcare delivery and patient care.
The convocation drew a distinguished audience, comprising IHHN’s faculty, residents, and their families, who came together to celebrate this remarkable accomplishment. Noteworthy guests, recognized for their valuable contributions, received awards during the event. Mr. Muhammad Siddique Sheikh, Chancellor Designate of Indus University of Health Sciences and trustee and Board Member of IHHN, graced the occasion as the chief guest. His extensive experience in business and industry, coupled with his significant roles in promoting free-of-cost education and healthcare organizations, underscored the event’s importance.
Two individuals were honored with the title of Professor Emeritus for their exceptional support of IHHN’s vision and mission, as well as their impactful contributions nationally and internationally. Professor Josephine Wing Yuk Ip, a renowned expert in Hand and Microsurgery from the University of Hong Kong, and Professor Tahseen Ahmad Cheema, Chief Orthopedic Surgeon at the National Orthopedic Hospital in Bahawalpur, were recognized for their support for IHHN’s vision and mission, and their remarkable impact at the national and international level.
Both were individually appointed as Professor Emeritus, Orthopedics and Hand surgery at IHHN. The award acknowledges their exemplary efforts and continuous efforts to transfer knowledge to the next generation. Both are world-renowned experts in the field of Hand and microsurgery. Their contributions through regular representation at Hand and upper limb courses as well at ICON’s (conferences) since 2010 are highly appreciated. They have been a continuous source of wisdom and support for the specialty development, both onsite and from far.
Dr. Megan Rybarczyk received an Appreciation Award for her outstanding contributions to emergency medicine residency training. As an Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, and Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship Director, Dr. Rybarczyk has played a pivotal role in establishing capacity-building and educational programs at IHHN, elevating patient care quality not only in Karachi but also across the network. Her involvement and dedication to IHHN has enabled it to expand the Network’s horizons and improve patient care quality. With programs like CPEM, BEC and emergency medicine leadership course, she is loved and respected all over the country by emergency physicians.
Moreover, the commemorative ceremony acknowledged the achievements of over 10 participants from Indus University & Health Sciences’ Family Medicine Practice Training Program, who were awarded certificates. The convocation, with its prestigious awards and acknowledgments, underscored IHHN’s commitment to excellence in medical education and healthcare.
